Tamara McCaw, Interim Chief Executive Officer

Tamara McCaw, Interim Chief Executive Officer, is a seasoned executive leader with over 25 years of experience advancing mission-driven cultural institutions through visionary leadership, operational excellence, and deep community and stakeholder engagement. With a proven track record of building and scaling organizations, leading complex teams and initiatives, and securing transformational funding, she brings the strategic insight and collaborative spirit essential to guiding a dynamic institution. Her decades of experience in the cultural sector—and deep knowledge of BAM—make her exceptionally well-positioned to lead us through this period of transition.
Most recently, Tamara served as the co-founder and chief strategist of Public Assembly, where she advised boards, executive leaders, and nonprofit teams on strategic planning, governance, organizational design, and program development. Previously, as chief civic program officer at The Shed, she was a key member of the institution’s founding leadership team.
Many of you also know Tamara as BAM’s inaugural Mikki Shepard Curatorial Fellow. Her previous work at BAM included leading government affairs and community programming and engagement—further deepening her longstanding connection to the organization.
