Experience Senegal: Senegalese Dance and Music

Celebrate traditional Senegalese dance styles and music! Experts in African dance lead this dynamic workshop which gets students moving and singing in the classroom.

In this program students will:

● Watch an excerpt of a dance performance by Senegalese dance troupe WAATO SiiTA from BAM’s 2017 DanceAfrica Festival
● Learn a version of the same dance with the guidance of BAM teaching artists, who provide live drumming accompaniment, in a workshop streamed live in the classroom
● Learn a Senegalese drumming call and response, and practice common Wolof words and phrases
● Engage with Senegal’s culture and history through other dynamic activities included in an online pre- and post-show study guide



This virtual workshop runs 55 minutes, including performance excerpts. Fee: $250
