Director Joe Massot points his camera toward the high-energy, kinetically wacked out world of 80s British two-tone ska in this concert film and cultural survey. Set against the post-industrial backdrop of Thatcher’s England, the sound is as much offbeat-reggae-skank as it is frenetic-punk-rock-mosh. Two-tone, a particularly subversive multi-racial musical movement, is emblematic of the pure energy and iconic fashion that came to define British youth culture. Featuring performances by legendary bands like The Specials, Madness, The Bodysnatchers, and The Selecter, this new 4K restoration drops us in the middle of a politically fraught yet joyously radical time and place.
