Earth II

  • Let The Record Show: Archived Cinema
Directed by The Anti-Banality Union

With a star-studded cast and astronomical production values—painstakingly purloined from some of the biggest blockbusters of the past three decades—Earth II is the most expensive climate disaster epic to be produced for almost no money.

Earth, present day. In the face of ever-worsening climate calamities, the captains of industry set their sights on a new planet. Soon, a secret public-private partnership is selling tickets to Mars at a premium few can afford. The rest must choose between indentured servitude or perishing in the coming cataclysm. Then the world’s governments decide to declare war on Earth, and the planet forges an unlikely alliance with an underground luddite movement. Some will join the uprising, others will become fanatical defenders of entrenched power structures, while yet others will do everything they can to continue living exactly the same way they always have.

Three made-for-TV movies about the Amy Fisher scandal are transformed into one meta-melodramatic mashup that’s both a scathing critique and celebration of early-90s tabloid culture.
