The Gossips of Cicadidae (2021)
Dir. Vahn Leinard Pascual, 15min

Drawing on silent film aesthetics from a bygone era, this black-and-white short tells a story of forbidden love. A young boy struggles with feeling trapped in his inherited role as his town’s next folk healer, until he meets a Tikbalang—a mythical humanoid creature that is part horse.

Cleaners (2019)
Dir. Glenn Barit, 78min, DCP
In Filipino/Tagalog with English subtitles

“one of the richest, most tender films of the year”—CNN Philippines

Made with a one-of-a-kind visual process, this absurd coming-of-age anthology film follows a group of high school students who struggle with the pressures to be pure, proper, and clean—both literally and metaphorically—while discovering that the world they are boxed into is dirty and superficial. Conjuring the look and feel of old class handouts, the film was made by printing 30,000 frames, photocopying them, and manually adding select color with highlighters, before being assembled back again digitally. With its radical look and a cast of local non-actors, Cleaners is a nostalgic trip back to earlier times marked by self-discovery and social awakening.
