Directed by Ernest R. Dickerson (1992)
With Omar Epps, Tupac Shakur, Khalil Kain, Jermaine Hopkins, Cindy Herron, Samuel L. Jackson, Queen Latifah

Cinematographer Ernest R. Dickerson directed and co-wrote this stylish crime drama about four Harlem friends—Bishop (Shakur), Q (Epps), Raheem (Kain), and Steel (Hopkins)—who spend their days skipping school, getting in fights, and casually shoplifting. But while Q has big plans for the future, dreaming of becoming a deejay, seeing James Cagney in White Heat inspires Bishop to buy a gun and plan an armed robbery—the first step on an inescapable path of escalating violence.
