Naked Acts

Jun 14—Jun 27, 2024
    Part of
  • BAM Film 2024
Directed by Bridgett M. Davis (1996)
With Jake-Ann Jones, John McKie, Ron Cephas Jones, Renee Cox, Sandye Wilson

Set within the demanding and revealing milieu of a low-budget film shoot, Naked Acts tells the story of Cicely, an actress—and the daughter of a former Blaxploitation film star—who recently lost 57 pounds and just landed her first role in an art film. When she learns that the role requires a nude scene, Cicely is faced with a dilemma: How can she keep her clothes on and keep the part? The sole feature by writer-director Bridgett M. Davis, Naked Acts offers a portrait of a young woman who quickly discovers that emotional nakedness is far more revealing than taking her clothes off could ever be.

Presented in a new restoration by Milestone Films and Lightbox Philadelphia.

Join us for a Q&A with director Bridgett M. Davis following the 7pm screenings on June 14 and 15! The June 14 conversation will be moderated by Maya Cade, the creator and curator of Black Film Archive.

Featuring an introduction by Maya Cade and director Bridgett M. Davis preceding the 9:10pm screening on June 21.
