3 Women

Nov 13—Nov 23, 2024
    Part of
  • The Extraordinary Shelley Duvall
  • and
  • BAM Film 2024
Directed by Robert Altman (1977)
With Sissy Spacek, Janice Rule, Robert Fortier

Derived from Robert Altman’s dreams—literally—this psychological drama stars Sissy Spacek as a naïve nurse in a small California desert town who becomes enamored with her pseudo-cosmopolitan coworker (Duvall). Spacek and Duvall deliver masterful performances as identities blur in this tale of obsession, schizophrenia, and psychoanalytic theory. This Bergman-esque enigma was unavailable for home viewing for nearly 30 years (Altman even stated that the negative had begun to deteriorate) until it was finally remastered and released in 2004.
