Directed by Weijun Chen (2019)
This comedic documentary by Weijun Chen (Please Vote for Me) tells the story of Wang Tiancheng, a spirited elderly street vendor in Wuhan whose business is threatened by new retail developments. Set against a backdrop of old neighborhoods clashing with booming new construction referred to as chéngzhōngcūn—literally “village in city”—this vendor is forced to grapples with government strictures, demonstrating the growing pains of rapid widespread modernization in Wuhan and other major cities.
