Klute

In the first installment of what would eventually come to be referred to as Pakula’s "paranoia trilogy" (followed by The Parallax View and All the President's Men), Fonda hauntingly portrays Bree Daniels, a high-priced call girl stalked by a psychopath. When she crosses paths with private eye John Klute (Sutherland), a blossoming romance thrusts Klute into the position of protector as he unravels the extent of Daniels’ predicament. Fonda won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her tour-de-force performance, cementing the eerie tone of a film that investigates surveillance and the weight of being watched.
