Set in a realistic but outside of time environment, Alan Rudolph’s grimy ensemble movie follows ex-cop Hawk (Kristofferson) as he returns from prison to the fictional “Rain City,” inspired by Seattle. Partially responsible for the re-appraisal of Rudolph's work as an auteur in recent years, the neo-noir reflects a Pynchonesque undercurrent of existential romanticism in a time unplaceable as past or future.
