Cheryl Pepsii Riley’s Black Velvet Mondays Experience

May 13, May 20 & June 3, 2024

Cheryl Pepsii Riley’s Black Velvet Mondays Experience

    Part of
  • Winter/Spring 2024

Chart-topping R&B vocalist Cheryl Pepsii Riley created a sensation with Black Velvet Mondays, the warm, welcoming weeknight concerts and jam sessions she initially launched in Greenwich Village. Now, she’s bringing it all back home to Brooklyn, the borough where she was born and raised, with a new series serving up free live music.

More than just an open-mic session, the Black Velvet Mondays Experience promotes artistry, music education, and community, and supports personal and creative expression, building confidence and growth among its artists. The showcase is known as a safe, encouraging space  for singers, instrumentalists, dancers, and other performers of all kinds to hone their craft and Trust Their Gifts (the night’s mantra) before making the leap to the big time. You never know what well known or future superstar you might catch.

Audience members can sign up for the open mic upon arrival.

      • BIO
        Cheryl Pepsii Riley

Brooklyn-born singer Cheryl Pepsii Riley made her initial splash in the music business as one of the lead singers for the group Stargaze. After scoring her first solo hit with "Thanks for My Child” in 1988, Riley hit the R&B and pop charts repeatedly during the ‘80s and ‘90s. She came on just as strong in her second act, embracing her love for theater by starring and co-starring in several touring stage plays, most notably, in Tyler Perry’s theatrical plays and films. This led her to recording for soundtracks, and eventually back to her solo musical career. She created her popular Black Velvet Mondays series to provide a positive, nurturing, and inspiring musical experience she could share with other artists and live music lovers. It’s where we all grow in  community she says, and where performance meets purpose!
