This show spotlights the distinction of performance art and observes the simultaneous lines between art and theater, audience and performer in manifold demonstrations of somatic practice. It features a cerebral perception-challenger by interdisciplinary artist Autumn Knight, and an original installation by the legendary multi-disciplinary artist Maren Hassinger.

        Autumn Knight
        Autumn Knight’s interdisciplinary practice uses performance, installation, video, and text. With a background in Drama Therapy, the 2022 Guggenheim Fellow creates an eclectic realm of performance art that fuses the social conditions of performance environment, message, expression, and spectator into one.

        Maren Hassinger
        In the words of Maren Hassinger, the “use of space in sculpture can define our relationships to one another.” Her work observes our humanness in experiential encounters through mediums including sculpture, performance, dance, and installation. Hassinger rose as a part of the Black avant-garde art movement of Los Angeles, including frequent Studio Z collaborator Senga Nengudi, and Houston Conwill. Her works were also featured in MoMA’s monumental JAM (Just Above Midtown) exhibition, named for the 1974 NYC Black art gallery led by Linda Goode Bryant.
