Colonial Misunderstanding

    Part of
  • FilmAfrica
  • and
  • DanceAfrica Festival 2024
Directed by Jean-Marie Téno (2004)

Join us for a Q&A with director Jean Marie Teno following the screening.

Germany's genocidal war against the Herero people in Namibia, which lasted from 1904 until 1908, strikingly foreshadowed the policies of the Nazi regime. Colonial Misunderstanding offers a provocative picture of the relatively short but horrific colonial history of Germany in Africa—specifically, its attempts to colonize parts of the continent through religion and trade.
