Dottie Gets Spanked + Special screening

Thu, Nov 21, 2024
    Part of
  • OUTRAGE: Movies and the Culture Wars, 1987–1996
  • and
  • BAM Film 2024
Directed by Todd Haynes (1993)
With J. Evan Bonifant, Barbara Garrick, Julie Halston, Robert Pall
Another dazzling suburban phantasm from writer-director Todd Haynes, Dottie Gets Spanked is a stylized, bittersweet nod to the filmmaker’s childhood fascination with I Love Lucy. Set deep in the heart of pre-hippie 60s America, a young, artistically-inclined boy is obsessed with Dottie Frank, wacky star of the eponymous hit sitcom The Dottie Show. Haynes' television debut, created for ITVS for the seven-part “TV Families” series, was broadcast on PBS and provoked conservative ire for its depiction of queer desire.

Followed by a surprise special screening!
