  • The Boom Is Really An Echo: Selections from the Pearl Bowser Media Collection

Bowser’s collection includes important works by Black women filmmakers of the 60s, 70s and 80s. This program spotlights films from Hortense "Tee" Beveridge, a politically progressive filmmaker and the first Black woman to be admitted to the film editor’s union; Madeleine Anderson, the first Black woman to direct a televised documentary film; and more.

Featuring screenings of The Guest (Pearl Bowser), Unspoken Conversation (Iman Hameen), I Am Somebody (Madeline Anderson), and more.

Join us after the program for a panel discussion with Melissa Lyde, Ina Archer, and others, moderated by Gillian Bowser.
