Carrie

Jul 5—Jul 10, 2024
    Part of
  • Two Women: Early Films of Sissy Spacek and Shelley Duval
  • and
  • BAM Film 2024
Directed by Brian De Palma (1976)
With Sissy Spacek, Piper Laurie, Amy Irving, John Travolta

De Palma’s wildly successful adaptation of Stephen King’s debut novel portrays a high schooler (Spacek), who discovers she has the power of telekinesis. Mercilessly bullied at school and secluded from the world by her evangelical, sexually repressed mother (Laurie), Carrie gets her chance to bring the house down on her classmates in the infamously blood-spattered prom scene. Spacek’s performance, by turns tender and terrifying, garnered her first Oscar nomination.
