The Big Lebowski
May 9—May 15, 2026
- Part of
- Pynchonesque and
- BAM Film 2026
Directed by Joel Coen (1998)
With
Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, Julianne Moore, Steve Buscemi, John Turturro
Jeff Lebowski, who actually only answers to “The Dude,” is mistaken for a millionaire of the same name and thrust into an intentionally over-complicated mystery in the Coen Brothers’ sprawling Raymond Chandler-inspired comedy. A predecessor to Pynchon’s Inherent Vice (and Paul Thomas Anderson’s later adaptation), this shaggy dog detective story similarly traces a derelict of the New Left navigating the power systems of Southern California.
