    Part of
  • Big Apple’s Littlest Bites: Coming of Age on Film in NYC
  • and
  • BAM Film 2024
Directed by Gordon Parks Jr. (1975)
With Moses Gunn, Kevin Hooks, Irene Cara, Robert Hooks, Leon Pinkney, Charles McGregor

For 16-year-old Aaron (Hooks), all that really matters in life is playing basketball—until he meets and falls in love with Angela (Cara), a 15-year-old Puerto Rican girl in Harlem. Knowing it would result in violent objections, Aaron and Angela keep their romance a secret from their parents, meeting in a room they’ve furnished in a deserted tenement building. But their idyllic romance is interrupted when drug dealers invade the building. Filmmaker Gordon Parks Jr. (Super Fly) puts a modern urban spin on Romeo and Juliet in this 1975 drama.
