Opening Night

Sep 14—Sep 19, 2024
    Part of
  • I'm Not Myself Today: Films that Inspired A Different Man"
  • and
  • BAM Film 2024
Directed by John Cassavetes (1977)
With Gena Rowlands, John Cassavetes, Ben Gazzara, Joan Blondell, Paul Stewart, Zohra Lampert, Laura Johnson, John Tuell, Ray Powers

After she witnesses the accidental death of a fan while rehearsing her latest play, successful actress Myrtle Gordon (an electrifying Gena Rowlands) confronts ghosts, personal demons, and her own mortality as she grapples with her role. Directing with his customary intensity and exuberance, John Cassavetes enlists a cast of fellow notables for his feverish hymn to the acting profession. Shunned at the time of its release, Opening Night has since become one of Cassavetes’ most influential creations.
